excited to be here in just a few short months.
so the idea of gardening has been rolling around in my head for a while now & i finally decided to give it a go. starting small with a pot of herbs (basil & cilantro). planning for a bigger fall garden in about a month. was absolutely delighted to go out & find these little sprouts coming up! here is the first week’s progress:
most of my birthdays have been about stuff… stuff i don’t want, and stuff i definitely don’t need. to be honest, i hardly even remember what i got last year.
so this year, I’m giving my birthday up. i’m turning 30 years old, and instead of asking for gifts, i’m asking for $30 or more from everyone i know. it’s not going to me, though. all of it is going to build freshwater projects for people in developing nations. a billion people in the world are living without clean water - but how much are they really living? millions contract deadly diseases from contaminated water. 30,000 people will die this week alone. the lucky ones won’t, but still walk hours each day to get dirty water to give to their families.
my birthday wish this year is not for more gifts i don’t need; it’s to give clean and safe drinking water to some of the billion living without it. i want to make my birthday matter this year, and i’m asking you to join me.

But in a world where we are governed by selfish ambition and impatience and “don’t tell me what to do” and anger that flares up like an infection, how I yearn to live altogether differently, not simply because I’ve learned how to manage my behavior but because God has changed me from the inside. And because I desperately desire to draw others to Jesus by a life that is distinctly bright and whole, because He has made it so.
